Unilux Completes Roll-Out of 2nd Generation of Handheld Strobe Lights

Unilux will introduce the LED1 and LED3, the next two members of its H2LED Series of handheldstrobe lights, at ICE USA 2015, Feb. 10-12, Orlando, FL. Unilux also will have UV models for both the LED1 and LED3 as well as its LED 2000 Family of strobes. The company will be in Booth 634 at ICE USA 2015.

The LED1 replaces the Pocket Pixel, and the LED3 replaces the LED1XS (spotlight pattern) and LED1XF (floodlight pattern). The new lights are five times brighter than their predecessors, which were part of Unilux’s original LED lights, and the LED3 will be available as fixed-mount light with regular or UV LED diodes. They join the LED12 handheld strobe light, which debuted last year.

“We expect our new LED1 to be especially popular among converters and printers,” said Mike Simonis, president, Unilux. “It’s lighter and brighter, and that will enable users to do a better job of trouble shooting problems on the line. It will be easier to handle, and it will work well in the ambient-light conditions found in most plants.

“Our new handheld strobes and fixed-mount inspection lights with UV capability continue our trend of getting brighter, lighter and more energy efficient,” he continued. “The demand for LEDs and LEDs with UV diodes is rising rapidly as customers start to gain more experience with them. The brighter light, especially for UV units, allows us to design smaller, lighter-weight strobe lights that give converters and printers the ability to place lights where they can maximize inspection capability. Plus, they can reduce energy consumption by two-thirds and gain all the environmental and reduced-maintenance benefits that come with LED technology.”

Being able to use UV diodes in the LED strobes is a major advantage for converters and printers who use clear coatings and cold adhesives for their products. Before UV LEDs, inspectors used a strobe light with a UV filter placed over the light’s lamps. Because the filter blocked a significant amount of light from the strobe, lights had to be big enough to provide sufficient light, and they had to be helped by placing them closer to the line and darkening the inspection area. Some converters built specially enclosed inspection stations.

“The brighter light changes every aspect of inspection,” Simonis said. “The LED-250, for example can be mounted far enough from the line to provide the same illumination as the LOL (Lith-O-Light)-20, and two LED 250s can cover a five-foot width. Customers who have made the switch have found the UV LEDs much more adaptive to their production processes. They also like the reduced time for light maintenance and the elimination of unplanned outages caused by lamp failure. All together, they should help users reduce waste, unscheduled downtime and maintenance costs while raising yield.”

Unilux LED strobe lights use the stroboscopic effect to visually freeze detailed images of flat surfaces or machine parts moving at full production speed. Images allow process operators, technicians and engineers to use their knowledge and experience to spot and determine the causes of defectsand to implement repair solutions.
